The United Nations Economic and Social Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, responsible for coordinating the economic and social fields of the organisation, specifically in regards to the 15 specialized agencies, the eight functional commissions and the five regional commissions under its jurisdiction.

The Council serves as the central forum for discussing international economic and social issues and formulating policy recommendations addressed to member states and the United Nations system. A number of non-governmental organisations have been granted consultative status to the Council to participate in the work of the United Nations.

Problematic:  How to assure the transgender social reintegration ?

The concept of identity is complex. Nowadays, in many countries, some people express their discomfort in their own bodies, claiming that they do not belong to their biological sex. Many states tried to put laws in place concerning this issue, some of which support the medical  process of gender reassignment. Science has progressed, yet mentalities of many countries continue to purposely restrain these new technologies. In the context of globalization, certain people have successfully achieved their gender change even though it was forbidden in their country of origin. In the same way, even in countries where this process is technically allowed, transgenders, transexuals and those transitioning have to face many obstacles. We will ask ourselves how to overcome the difficulties that are facing these people. How to enable their reintegration into society and professional setting? How to protect them from discriminations and from body and mental harm ? Taking in consideration cultural and religious specificities of every country of the Member States, delegates of this committee will try to answer these questions.
