WHO's main functions can be summed up as follows: to act as a directing and coordinating authority on international health work, to ensure valid and productive technical cooperation, and to promote research.

The objective of WHO is the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health. Health, as defined in the WHO Constitution, is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

WHO also proposes conventions, agreements, and regulations and makes recommendations about international nomenclature of diseases, causes of death, and public health practices. It develops, establishes, and promotes international standards concerning foods and biological, pharmaceutical, and similar substances.

AddiMUN 2019 World Health Organization Topic

Problematic:  How to reassure help for sexual minorities suffering from AIDS ?

Appeared at the end of the 70’s, HIV is a sexually transmitted disease, but it can also be transmitted through blood. Ever since, this STD has been associated with various communities, such as substance abusers, but also homosexuals, mainly men. These minorities, already facing discrimination, are being even more rejected by society. The real problem is that this rejection will restrain their access to medical care, a major paradox seeing as countries of the South, where discrimination is the most significant, are the most concerned by this pandemic. The problematic of the World Health Organization is will therefore be “How to reassure help for sexual minorities suffering from AIDS ?”. The debate won’t be limited to this question, but will also cover the eventual psychological help patients can receive to overcome this tough situation. This will be discussed in the World Health Organization of AddiMUN 2019.
